A seagull has made a miraculous escape after becoming wedged into the front of a car travelling at high speed on the A1M between Newton Aycliffe and Darlington train station.
The driver did not realise the bird was stuck in the vehicle's grill until he received a message alerting him to its presence. He then contacted Darlington Bird Rescue to assist.
Bird Found Uninjured
Rescuers discovered the gull was completely trapped in the car's grill but had suffered no damage to its wings, legs or back. The bird had only a few leg scrapes and damaged feathers from the incident.
Laura Hewitt, founder of Darlington Bird Rescue, said the gull would receive ongoing care and monitoring to help it recover. "He will have a lot of monitoring, some painkillers, and all the food he could wish for to make up for his lucky escape," she said.
