Residents, businesses and stakeholders in Darlington are being asked to share their views on proposals for a new link road connecting the A66 and A1(M).
Tees Valley Combined Authority has launched a public consultation on the scheme, which forms part of plans to improve connectivity across Darlington and the wider Tees Valley region. The consultation runs until 25 September and asks whether a new link road is needed and, if so, which route option should be developed further.
What the project aims to achieve
The proposed road is intended to tackle congestion, support future housing and jobs growth, and improve quality of life for local communities. The scheme addresses longstanding issues including high levels of freight traffic travelling through residential areas and road safety concerns.
Initial assessments suggest significant potential benefits. The "do minimum" option could remove more than 10,700 vehicles per day from residential roads and deliver journey time savings of up to two-and-a-half minutes during peak periods.
Route options and consultation events
Three principal route options, alongside a number of variations, have been developed and are now being presented for public feedback.
People can take part in the consultation by completing an online survey or attending in-person consultation events. Details of the events will be announced soon.
All responses will be independently analysed and carefully considered before any decisions are made.
