Darlington Libraries is running a packed summer programme of free and paid activities for families, culminating in a Library Takeover Day in the Market Square on Wednesday 5 August from 11am to 3pm.
The takeover day will feature interactive performances from Imagine Me Storytelling, Darlington Academy of Performing Arts and a K-pop party. Local authors will be present and children can take part in free hands-on activities throughout the day.
Weekly workshops and activities
Both Darlington Library and Cockerton Library will host a programme of weekday and Saturday events during the summer holidays. Activities include slime-making workshops, Big Science workshops, comic book masterclasses, summer tote bag making, and Rhymetime adventure play sessions for babies and toddlers.
A longer course called Scene Makers - Film Club runs for six weeks at a cost of £12.50 and is aimed at 11–16 year olds. Participants will learn about screenwriting, film theory and film production, and will make their own film by the end of the course.
Summer Reading Challenge
The annual Summer Reading Challenge returns to mark the National Year of Reading. Children and young people aged 0–16 can borrow books from either library and enter a free prize draw once per day.
The top prize is an Apple iPad and Apple Pencil bundle. Other prizes include Lego sets, pantomime tickets for Darlington Hippodrome, swim, soft play and bowling vouchers, a Jellycat bunny and a Fortnite gift card.
