Darlington Borough Council and charity Groundwork have launched a new 10-week gardening and skills course for unemployed adults. The programme, called Grow, Learn, Thrive, combines practical horticultural experience with personal development and aims to help participants build confidence and progress towards employment or further learning.

The course is delivered by Learning & Skills tutors at Groundwork's allotment on Bellburn Lane. Learners gain hands-on experience growing and caring for fruits and vegetables, develop knowledge of seasonal planting, and learn sustainable gardening practices.

Who can apply

Priority is given to working-aged adults with little or no qualifications who live in Darlington postcodes identified as having high levels of unemployment.

The programme is designed for people who may have had negative experiences with education in the past. It aims to help them reconnect with learning, build confidence, and access opportunities to improve their health and wellbeing.

Course availability

Enrolments are currently open for the first course, which started this week. A second course is scheduled to begin in the New Year.
