Darlington Borough Council is running a bin monsters trail during half term to encourage families to learn about food waste recycling. The trail runs from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October across the town centre.

Participants can complete an entry sheet by visiting different shops around the town centre and collecting information about how food waste is recycled and turned into renewable energy. Those who tick off all the stops on their sheet will be entered into a draw to win a high street voucher.

Why the council is promoting the trail

Libby McCollom, cabinet member for local services, said the trail was designed to engage families and demonstrate how waste recycling contributes to a sustainable borough. "This is a fun way to engage families and remind us all how our waste can do wonders," she said.

McCollom thanked residents already recycling their food waste and said the trail would encourage more households to take part and put their food waste and recycling out for collection each week.

Creating a well-connected, clean and sustainable borough is listed as a priority in the Council Plan.
